Kambah Garden hoping for best Open Day yet !
This Saturday (2 November 2024) Kambah Community Garden is holding its annual open day and seedling sale from 10am to 3pm. The garden is on Springbett Street near the Kambah woolshed – there is ample free parking. We’ll have our popular plant and seedling stall, with plants aplenty for sale, ornamental as well as edible, all grown by our garden members. Packets of green manure seed will also be on sale.
Gardening-related stalls include ACT for Bees, Seed Savers, Southern ACT Catchment Group, and SEE Change, who will be running an e-bike try event in conjunction with the open day.
Guest presentations include:
• 10.00am Soil, by Fiona Buining from Ainslie Urban Garden
• 11.00am Growing delightful dahlias, by Richard Buker (Co-Convenor of Kaleen Garden)
• 12.00pm Hand pollinating pumpkins & zucchinis by Seed Savers
• 1.00pm Indigenous plant use, by Aaron Chatfield from Dreamtime Connections
Other attractions will include a sausage sizzle and egg and bacon burgers, with eggs donated by garden members, and a tea and coffee stall with home-baked treats. No open day would be complete without the ever-popular raffle, with generous prizes donated by local businesses. Kambah plot holder and much-admired artist, Cathy Morison, (her wonderful bird drawings have been featuring in the COGS magazine, Canberra Organic) is donating a commissioned work, which will be framed by a local business. Music will be provided by our very own Celtic piper, Ken Fraser, who will herald in the start of the open day with his bagpipes.
Takings from the day will be used for future improvements to the garden, and for a donation to Oz Harvest.
